Fatigue

Fatigue Be Gone!

Do you wake up feeling exhausted? Or are you like so many people who need an afternoon cup of coffee to get through the remainder of your day? Fatigue can rob you of your energy and motivation needlessly.

In the treatment of fatigue, insomnia or poor sleep must first be addressed. A good night’s sleep is paramount in sustaining energy throughout the following day. Although you must get restful sleep in order to have energy, there are also many other potential factors in causing exhaustion.

Fatigue and Hormone Balance

Hormones signal our cells to perform certain functions. Without adequate hormone balance and communication our bodies lack input to run its internal machinery. Fatigue is very common when hormones are imbalanced or not at an optimal levels. In fact, symptoms of low energy can be present even when hormone test results are within normal range. Standard lab tests used in conventional medicine test for pathology, not optimal function and health. An analogy of a cell phone comes to mind. A normal signal could be considered a 1-5 bar signal. However, a signal of 4 or 5 bars results in a phone connection with minimal interference and maximum function. Conversely, the phone can still function with a couple of bars but its speed or quality of sound will be impaired. Similarly, when our hormones are not in the optimal range, we experience exhaustion or a slow metabolism.

Fatigue and Thyroid

Sustaining energy output is difficult if the thyroid is weak. A low functioning thyroid (hypothyroidism) can lead to feeling fatigued much faster. Some symptoms include:

  • Heavy headed / feeling tired (especially in the afternoons)
  • Falling asleep as soon as you sit down and relax, and
  • Feeling like you don’t have the energy to exercise or do other normal activities.

Comprehensive thyroid testing if vital to understanding how your thyroid is functioning and treating fatigue. Merge Medical Center assess the thyroid for thyroid resistance, subclinical hypothyroidism, Hashimoto’s Disease, Wilson’s Temperature Syndrome, and poor thyroid hormone conversion (T4 to T3).

Our Focus is getting to the root cause of symptoms and treating them with natural solutions before disease sets in.

Fatigue and Adrenal Glands

About 80 percent of adults in America experience adrenal fatigue at some point in their lives. Adrenal fatigue can occur when your adrenals become exhausted. Adrenal glands enable the body to deal with a variety of stressors (i.e. injury, disease, work, and relationship issues) and to assist in keeping blood sugar levels normal. Signs and symptoms of adrenal fatigue include:

Weakness Suppressed Immunity Fatigue (Afternoon Crash) Depression
Skin Problems Low Sex Drive Autoimmune Disorders Muscle Loss
Bone Loss Increased Allergies Decreased Stress Tolerance Weight Gain

Fatigue—Organic Acid Testing(OAT) and Nutritional Deficiency

Fatigue is commonly known as physical or mental exhaustion that can be triggered by stress, medication, infection, mental or physical illness. Many health conditions that cause fatigue can be identified by using an Organic Acid Test (OAT). Nutrients in the body act as protecting agents for the heart, brain, liver and other vital organs. Just as a car has gauges to alert potential problems, the body has certain chemical indicators, called organic acids, that when tested, alert your doctor where to begin to treat fatigue. This takes the guesswork out of diagnosing the cause of someone’s fatigue.

Problems with detoxification, gut dysbiosis, and oxidative stress can be treated more efficiently by identifying these metabolic chemical indicators. Organic Acid Testing does not diagnose the disease itself but it does help pinpoint the causes. Targeted treatment programs help patients maximize their responses that lead to improved outcomes. OAT helps to target treatment by identifying ailments that are otherwise difficult to diagnose because they include many non-specific symptoms such as fatigue, foggy mind, stomach upset, sleep problems, and joint aches.

Fatigue and Acupuncture

Chinese medicine practitioners focus on the quality and quantity of energy flowing in the body as a main cause of many chronic health conditions. If there is a blockage in the flow of this energy, or Qi (pronounced chee), various illnesses can result. Acupuncture helps restore the natural flow of energy throughout the body. Repairing the natural flow of Qi can help return the body to a harmonious state where health can be restored. Chronic exhaustion is one blockage issue that is common and can be treated effectively by acupuncture, herbal medicine and nutrition.
